As Director of the studio, Alick’s extensive experience working with some of the countries leading landscape design practices has resulted in working across a huge range of domestic and international landscape projects; becoming key in developing schemes from design concept, through planning, and finally to on-site construction.
Fern & Pine Design Studio can offer the full range of landscape architecture services, aligned to RIBA work plan stages, and we specialise in bespoke, contemporary developments with ambitions of developing a strong landscape character for their scheme, and we have experience working on historic or ecologically sensitive schemes.
Collaborate with your architects and design team to produce early landscape proposals for discussion with the local planning authority, encouraging an open relationship to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the planning application process.
OUTLINE PLANNING / DETAILED PLANNING
Produce Outline Planning or full Detailed Planning application packs to support the development proposals, fully describing the landscape design intentions.
Working closely with your architects to support a planning apllication submitted under Paragraph 79 of the NPPF for dwellings of exceptional quality or innovative nature of the design, for sites within the rural countryside.
Producing all required landscape documentation to assist with:
– Reserved Matters;
– Non-Material Amendments – Section 96A;
– Minor Material Amendments – Section 73;
– Discharge of Planning Conditions.
Fern & Pine collaborate with a wide range of consultants and has the ability to create teams of hand-picked specialist landscape architects, urban designers, ecologists, arborists, horticulturalists, architects, conservationists and historic building consultants as required, to meet the needs of complex large-scale developments, through to individual houses, homes and one-off developments.
We have a close working relationship with a number of architecture practices and independent architects and architectural technicians
We are part of a local network of independent landscape architects that work collaboratively to form teams to meet the needs of complex projects
Working closely with arborists to produce BS5837 tree surveys, establish tree protection zones, advise on tree works, TPOs and conservation areas
Working with ecologists to produce Phase 1 and Phase 2 Habitat Surveys, Bat Surveys and establish ecological needs of the site
As well as having a horticulural background himself, Alick works with professional horitculuralists and gardeners to advise on any specfic needs and to establish on-going maintenence regiemes and management documents
Exporing the history of a site so that it can be creativley conserved and managed, working with specialist conservationists and historic building consultants and with Historic England
Alick has been instrumental in gaining planning approval and developing landscape schemes for historically sensitive buildings and locations, including John Nash designed terraces and national treasures designed by Giles Gilbert Scott, as well as for complex multi-disciplinary schemes including extensive podium landscapes over basements and large-scale residential developments.
Alick’s experience in previous roles has included commercial developments and schemes in London, Italy, Hong Kong and Russia. London schemes have included multiple projects in Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Westminster, Holland Park, Earls Court, Islington, Wandsworth and Southwark.
